What to check before you buy
- With the engine cold and off, remove the oil filler cap and reach in with a tool to feel the primary timing chain over the top intake gear - if chain links can be lifted cleanly off the gear or slack is felt, the tensioner pin has fully collapsed
- Listen for a loud slapping/ticking sound on startup resembling the chain hitting the inside of the valve cover
- Scan for P0012 and P0300
