Engine-Bay Wiring Harness Fire-Risk Recall Plus AdrenoX Software Issues

Electrical/Fire Safety (recalled component); Infotainment and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems software (not recalled) · severity: High for the wiring harness recall - a real, disclosed fire-risk safety defect; Moderate for the AdrenoX/ADAS software issues, which are real usability and, in the case of unexpected automatic emergency braking, a real driving-safety annoyance rather than a confirmed collision-causing defect in the sources checked · confidence: 48/100 · 3 cited sources
Applies to: 2.0L mStallion TGDi turbo-petrol, 149kW @ 5,000rpm / 380Nm @ 1,750-3,000rpm, 6-speed… / 2.2L mHawk turbo-diesel, 114kW/380Nm (6-speed manual) or 136kW/450Nm (6-speed automatic)… - not every engine this model has been sold with

Symptoms to watch for

  • Wiring harness recall: no reliable advance driver-facing symptom - per the recall's own disclosed risk description, the failure mode is a fire risk that develops from ongoing vibration-driven abrasion, not something a driver can detect before it manifests
  • AdrenoX/infotainment: intermittent screen blackouts, the system hanging up and rebooting unprompted, incorrect time display, a software version showing as '0.0.0', false 'lights on' or 'door open' notifications on the companion app after the vehicle has been locked, wireless Android Auto connection issues, and built-in navigation intermittently failing
  • ADAS: automatic emergency braking activating unexpectedly with no obstacle present, particularly reported during overtaking manoeuvres on undivided roads with oncoming traffic - described by owners as intrusive and, in at least one report, risky due to the sudden power cut during an overtaking attempt

What To Check

The wiring harness fire-risk defect is NOT reliably test-drive-detectable - per the recall's own disclosed rationale, it is a progressive, vibration-driven abrasion risk with no described advance driver-facing warning sign, so a clean test drive does not rule it out. A direct VIN check with Mahindra South Africa is the only reliable method. The AdrenoX/infotainment and ADAS issues ARE partially test-drive-detectable - a power-cycle test of the infotainment system and a road test on a route with oncoming traffic (if safe) can reveal both patterns, though intermittent software glitches may not reproduce on every test.
